Subway Extension Vital Controls
Ontario, Canada
Background
The first subway extension in Toronto in over 15 years the York Spadina Subway Extension (YSSE) responded to the need to have increased public transit breadth in the city. By 2020 the extension is expected to carry some 24 million passengers.
Challenge
Implement the ventilation and station control systems for 6 brand new subway stations.
Solution
Our solution included supporting the extension from control panel builds to PLC logic, HMI development and network design. The project involved a full use of Jordan's Process Automation, Business Integration and Panel Shop teams. While each station was similar, there were key differences that required extreme attention to detail and the generation of creative solutions for challenges as they arose.
Empowerment & Accountability
Station operators and maintenance teams are now empowered to use system diagnostics and HMI to monitor and control station systems in non-emergent and emergent situations. The transparency built into the system allows operators to make informed decisions based on real-time data.
