Energy Management Information System (EMIS)
Ontario, Canada
Background
A large plastics manufacturing firm set a goal of increasing its energy efficiency via the creation of an energy management system.
Challenge
Reduce plant energy consumption using an innovative solution.
Solution
Jordan used its 'Green Process' to identify interdependencies and options to run plant equipment more efficiently. An energy savings event algorithm was also designed and monitoring scenarios were programmed for equipment shutdown with real-time updates, allowing for four levels of response to opportunities to increase energy efficiency. MII Engineering and Management level reporting were developed for better coordination with multiple plant locations, as well as ad-hoc reporting.
Empowerment & Accountability
Operator level reporting shows real time energy data increasing operator visibility and empowering operations teams to take action at the plant level. The proactive production approach also builds operator awareness and accountability and has led to a 20% energy reduction.
