Derived Function Blocks & Data Types
Canada, US, Mexico
Background
A foam producer offering innovative urethane and particle foam technologies chose to update its system PLC programming to better serve its clients.
Challenge
Modernize the PLC logic by converting older ladder diagrams and addressed data to modularized function blocks and data structures.
Solution
Our solution involved a two-pronged approach. Firstly, the logic conversion where derived function blocks (DFBs) and derived data types (DDTs) were used to help standardize elements of the overall programming and organize data without the need to use older addressing systems. Secondly, the high-speed logic CPU was eliminated and the programming was merged into a single CPU solution.
Empowerment & Accountability
Corporate engineers are now empowered with a future-proof path forward for overhauling legacy molded foam systems across the organization and leveraging the latest programming tools.
